Recent sales of Terrill Welch oil paintings and pending price increase

An artist is most often pleased when paintings find buyers and new homes. However, if an artist’s paintings sell too quickly it creates a kind of uncomfortable tension – at least for me anyway. I feel this certain kind of panic which is only addressed by painting more paintings. Take for example these resent three paintings that sold between Sunday and Sunday during the first week of August:

TULIPS SPRINGWATER DECK II a 20 x 16 inch oil painting that went to a collector in Saskatchewan Canada

and the pair of paintings going to a Victoria, British Columbia Canada collector

TULIPS SPRINGWATER DECK MAYNE ISLAND also 20 x 16 inches and the sister plein air painting to the studio work above

For a painter such as myself, who isn’t particularly prolific with only somewhere between 60 and 70 finished paintings in a year, this frequency of sales for midsized paintings causes me to become anxious. I have one of two choices. I can paint more paintings each week or I can raise my prices. Since I am already working full-time between my photography and painting you can guess which it shall be.

Please note: During the first week of October, the prices on my original paintings will increase for the second time this year.

I know this is hard for those who have my work on your wishlist. I am also fully aware that my paintings are often double the price of other emerging artists. My work is pricy no matter which reference a buyer is to consider. However, my original paintings are always going to be in limited supply for a whole combinations of reasons. I am not a painting factory. I paint as part of my very personal creative process and share the results through the sale of my work. Yet, I would still like my fans, supporters and collectors to have the option to enjoy my work in some form. Here are two examples of affordable options that were purchases by buyers this week:

Thank you to the many admirers of both my painting and my photography. Your ongoing support in so many different ways is greatly appreciated.

For those who will be in Sidney British Columbia between September 3rd and 30th I will, at their request, have a few of my paintings hanging in the Island Blue Sidney Art Store. if you like, drop in for a first hand browse.

All the best of today to you!
