No two classes will likely ever be exactly the same. Each of these classes will be based on the learning intentions and focus of the students who have registered. Therefore, the teaching methods and approach are different from the Skill Building Class.

This class will include a few specific lessons, such as advanced oil painting techniques, a brief history of landscape painting component, photographing of your paintings in natural light and setting up an inventory system and pricing. However, the main focus will be on supporting each student to develop a body of work. This class will be a chance to dig deep and really refine your intentions and your passion. For both online and in-person students, we will have about three group mentoring live video chats so you can have me answer your questions and if possible, we will record the sessions for inclusion in the online platform. At the end of each Studio Intensive Class, I am anticipating that each student will have a few works “show ready.” We will explore ways and options for showing online and in-person – if you wish. This is not a requirement but rather an invitation. It is more important to focus on developing a strong body of work than on showing and yet, eventually, this too becomes part of an artist’s work and it is nice to know how to go about doing it.

Beauty of Oils 90 Minute Mentoring Coaching Sessions – On going.

Terrill Welch will provide one 90 minute individual mentoring coaching session (online or in-person) to review your body of work and help you determine your growing edges and where you want to focus next. These individual mentoring coaching sessions are only be available to students who have completed at least one Studio Intensive class. The mentoring coaching session will come with an advance set of exercise questions to help you organize your thoughts and body of work in order to get the most out of the discussion. These individual sessions will be scheduled at the end of each Studio Intensive class. Depending on class sizes between online and in-person, Terrill will not likely be able to do this for everyone at the end of every class. The mentoring and coaching sessions will be on a first come bases and as Terrill’s time allows.

What Students say to their friends about taking Terrill’s Classes:

I can’t say enough positive things about Terrill and taking oil painting classes with her. As some of you know, when I started, I had never even held an oil painting brush and had to go to the first class early as I couldn’t figure out how to open my easel. I will being having my 3rd art show in May with two of my classmates. If you ever considered trying oil painting, or diving deeper with an established practice, please join us. Both in-person and online classes offered. – Katherine Cox Stevenson

So very excited to be continuing my painting classes with this wonderful woman. She is highly knowledgeable & kind & the best of instructors I have ever had. Oh, forgot to mention how patient she is… she took on a group of us who have had little or no painting experience ever & encouraged us every step of the way no matter how desperate we were feeling. She taught us to persevere & we are doing it again. Contact Terrill if you are interested in joining up. – Glenda K.

Highly recommend this class and Terrill. She is my art mentor. I have learned so much from her in my time in class painting with her. She is definitely one of my most favorite human beings. If you ever wanted to paint this is the opportunity to do so! Josette DeBattista

Art inspires us to look at the world differently. It takes a good art teacher to inspire us to understand, appreciate and perceive the mechanics and soul of art. I am fortunate to have found such a teacher in Terrill Welch. The classes that Terrill offers have opened for me the treasures and pleasures of painting from setting up the easel to opening the paint box to those first strokes of paint on an empty canvas. Terrill guided me through the basics of brushes, the paints to use, the role of reference material (from the roughest sketch and photographs), to the role of the underpainting, and how to perceive light as the narrator of the story a painting tells. What I have come to appreciate are her critiques that challenge me to grow as a painter.  I am a richer person because of what Terrill has taught me about art and perceiving the world around me. Besides being excited about taking another class with Terrill, I am honored to have this internationally known artist both as a friend and a mentor. If you want to be inspired and enriched as person and as an artist, I encourage you to contact Terrill.  – Charles van Heck
