Mostly The Red Line Series

New show in the Terrill Welch Gallery Pod opening today October 6 and showing through to October 31, 2022. Self browsing available in person from 11-4, Thursday through Monday, at 428 Luff Rd., Mayne Island B.C. or online in our private viewing room HERE.

This show is primarily Terrill Welch’s Red Line Series which began in 2021 as a way for her to be personably accountable for noticing the impacts on our environment while holding the tension between the grandness and beauty during the destruction of our landscape.

Artist notes about the Red Line Series: Sea levels rise, damage from storm surges increase, wild fire smoke gives us deep orange moonrises, glaciers in the mountains melt endangering our freshwater supply and we are running out of suitable sand to make cement as we mine the landscape relentlessly for its resources. I could paint stunning landscapes for the next twenty years. But, in a way, they would be a lie, denying the pain and lump in my throat as I walk amongst the trees. Right now, painting only such paintings of bliss seem irresponsible, an unacceptable personal denial. So I went to work to find a more honest way to render my experiences.

Smaller paintings by Terrill Welch are also included outside of this series plus two guest paintings by Jennifer Peers.

Please call, text or use our inquiry option for assistance or to make purchasing arrangements. Thank you for visiting the Terrill Welch Gallery Pod and enjoying our self browsing experience.

Again, feel free to view online in our private viewing room HERE.

Terrill Welch Gallery Spotlight on artist Jody Waldie

Jody Waldie has a wide range of subjects rendered mostly in oils on her canvases. There is something about standing in front of one of her works that tells you that each brushstroke has been thoughtfully considered and then applied freely without constraint. I have had the pleasure of seeing her develop an artwork from sketches, colour studies and underpaintings with each stage resolving additional painting challenges that all painters must face if they want to keep developing their work.

A viewer can witness the strong bones in a finished painting of her drawing skills that underly her vision for a piece. We are fortunate to currently have three of her paintings showing between the two Terrill Welch Gallery spaces.

ISLAND TIME ART is showing “Autumn Bouquet” and

“Strawberry in Sunshine”

in the physical art room and online HERE until October 17, 2022.

In addition, the Terrill Welch Gallery Pod has the pleasure of hosting the guest painting “Winter Walk on Glen Echo Trail” by Jody Waldie in the physical gallery and online HERE until October 3, 2022.

Also, Jody Waldie has a feature interview by Cherie Thiessen in the September/October 2022, vol 17, issue 5, of the AQUA GULF ISLANDS LIVING magazine on pages 20-21 if you wish to learn more about the life of this Mayne Island artist.

We invite you to enjoy these paintings in person or in our online gallery as much as we do and possibly consider adding one to your art collection.

Earth and Water: A Conversation on Edge with artists Terrill Welch and Elena Maslova-Levin

Opening the season at the Terrill Welch Gallery is a two artist international exhibition, April 13 — May 13, 2018 on Mayne Island in British Columbia, Canada.

Earth & Water: A Conversation on Edge with Terrill Welch and Elena Maslova-Levin

Sixteen landscapes. A multitude of conversations.

The timeless conversation between Earth and Water, shaping the edges of continents and islands we inhabit.

The conversation between the observer and the observed, shaping our visible reality.

And between the artist and nature, from which paintings emerge and invite the spectator to take part in the conversation.

And finally, the conversation between artists, in words and in paintings — an ongoing exchange of insights and impressions, challenges and breakthroughs.

Preview all sixteen paintings and learn more about the artists and the show HERE.

Also, a short video of the show is now available for your viewing pleasure.

On Friday, April 13th Elena Maslova-Levin and Terrill Welch will do a live video chat from the Art of Terrill Welch Facebook Page at 11:00 am PDT to open the show.

Road to Everyday – Canadian landscape painting

The heavy fog on the road this day – this painting is an interpretation of common-place stillness that is clearly visible in my sensory memory. It is a time when deep quiet comes to dripping woods along the sea. Though this scene may possibly be mapped for hundreds and even thousands of years into the collective history of humankind, still I paint it. I paint this common-place Canadian landscape because it pleases me.
