Le Petit Show Opening on International Artist Day

Who loves the little paintings, the small works, the pieces that are always perfect to hang or rest or prop in your modest space? Maybe one like this small 8 x 10 inch acrylic sketch on gessobord? Yes?

Who wants to support their favourite artist for International Artist Day but a large work is just plain outside the budget? Well, the Terrill Welch Gallery has you covered!

The online Le Petit Show opens Thursday, October 25th for International Artist Day and will close Saturday, November 10th. The show will include the available work in the online gallery  Acrylic Painting Sketch collection and the Small Oil painting collection

If you happen to be “on island” for the Remembrance Day weekend the Terrill Welch Gallery is open Friday evening November 9th from 4 – 5, Saturday, November 10th, and Sunday, November 11th, during the day from 11-4 at 478 Village Bay Rd in Miners Bay on Mayne Island in British Columbia, Canada. The gallery is also open by appointment during the winter months any day or time that is mutually agreeable.

Mayne Island Arbutus Trees and High Seas Paintings

Recent weeks have been productive, resulting in three new and two revisited works.

Northeasterly Morning Strait of Georgia Mayne Island BC – 20 x 40 inch oil on canvas. The cool winter light of early morning splashes with the waves in the high winds along the Strait of Georgia. Chilled to shivering, I stand transfixed. What if this were my last breath? Ah, but it would be a good one! View from Oyster Bay on Mayne Island in British Columbia, Canada.

Late Afternoon Georgina Point Mayne Island BC – 8 x 10 inch acrylic sketch. I come back repeatedly to find the perfect day with the most perfect light. Is this it? A quick sketch to explore the quality of an early winter evening by the sea.

Late September Sun on Vulture Ridge Mayne Island BC – 11 x 14 inch plein air acrylic sketch. Plein air painting up on Henderson Hill at Vulture Ridge is a worthy climb on September 28, 2014. Unfortunate a small correction did not happen to this work until late December 2016, resulting it a lengthy delay in the painting sketch’s release. However, the freshness of that day has no expiry date.

Arbutus on Mt. Parke – 12 x 16 inch oil on canvas. Morning lifts heavy mist from the highest places while the sun dances cheek-to-cheek with the late October shadows. As these arbutus trees extend themselves in prayer, angels dissipate into the warmth gathering on top of the Mayne Island Mt. Parke ridge.

Scent of Hyacinths new still life painting and other studio news

There is a moment when the scent of hyacinths registers. My eyes close and there is a reel of past moments cascading through my memory until I pull up the correct identification – Hyacinths, spring! Now this moment will be added to those.

In other Studio news, the final preparations for “West Coast Landscape as Home” a solo exhibition of Terrill Welch paintings opening April 4, 2015 are close to complete. Very shortly, a special post exclusively for this show will be available. For now though, the art catalogue is in the mail to existing collectors, postcard announcements have been handed out and posters are up.

Also, a few acrylic painting sketches have found new homes. These works are usually not for sale but if one is to inquire sometimes they are allowed to leave the studio.
