Great News for Our Summer Art Shows

Great news! Beginning July 1, 2021, as per BC’s provincial health recommendations, masks are no longer mandatory. Masks are recommended in indoor public places for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated. There will be no hard limit on folks in the gallery. On very busy days, we may regulate the flow of traffic to allow people to distance as spaces are small. As always, if you would like to make an appointment outside of regular business hours (and we can both be masked if needed, just let me know) call 250-744-4560, or email tawelch@shaw.ca to make arrangements.

The Terrill Welch Gallery at 478 Village Bay Rd, Mayne Island B.C. will have walk-in hours for both gallery rooms 11-2 on Thursdays and Saturdays and by appointment on other days. The gallery’s Arbutus Room is open for walk-in viewing whenever the Dragonfly next to it is open 10-4 Tuesday through Sunday. All work is available for viewing in detail anytime online at: ArtWork Archive for original paintings and acrylic sketches currently available

Thank you everyone for your continued support! We look forward to sharing our new shows with you:

Terrill Welch solo show “Stepping Lightly: pandemic life within our landscape
June 9 – August 8, 2021

Through her paintings in this solo exhibition, Terrill Welch invites us to stand with her during this unique space and time, together. We shall open up in ways that we have never thought mattered, by design, filled with purpose, rising towards possibility. Do you dare?

Summer Group show with Jody Waldie, Jennifer Peers, Glenda King and Terrill Welch “Next to the Salish Sea
June 24 – September 6, 2021

On our bellies leaning over a dock in Horton Bay, bracing against the winds in a storm to capture large rollers coming ashore or lengthening our stride along a forested seaside trail are all part of life on Mayne Island next to the Salish Sea.

In addition, Terrill Welch will be working on a large 36 x 72 inch panoramic view of Glenwood Farm Lookout in the Terrill Welch Gallery Arbutus Room (478 Village Bay Rd. in Miners Bay) starting today July 3, 2021 until it is finished. New photos like the one below will be added to a special album on our Facebook Page as the painting proceeds.

Enjoy! And drop down and say “hello” in person if you are on Mayne Island in British Columbia.

Allow us to inspire you with our west coast landscape magic!

Landscape Paintings Sell During Unprecedented Times

Against formidable odds in extraordinary times, Terrill Welch’s contemporary landscape paintings continue to be acquired by art collectors. In fact, out of the last nine paintings she has released since February 14, 2020, five have sold. One large seascape, that she painted near the beginning of her Province’s “stay at home” orders, was sold while still wet on the easel and before the last brushstroke had been applied. An International corporate inquiry resulted in a request for a commission. The sale of another work continued on into a special request for a second painting. And so it has gone, until between then and now a total of ten original oil paintings of various sizes have left the gallery for adventures of their own. We will highlight the last five newest work that have sold because it will be the only time they will be introduced to you. As you will see, these paintings have been rendered with that special all-in, full sensory expression that Terrill’s paintings are known to convey. Viewers frequently comment on what they can hear, feel and smell as well as what they see when standing before her work. It is no wonder they have been chosen to share the homes of admirers during these past few months!

SOLD Rough Seas and Sunshine by Terrill Welch, 20 x 24 inch oil on canvas
SOLD China Beach Morning by Terrill Welch, 8 x 10 inch plein air acrylic sketch
SOLD Sunrise at Gordon’s Beach study by Terrill Welch, 8 x 10 acrylic sketch
SOLD Rhine River in Basel Switzerland by Terrill Welch, 14 x 18 inch oil on canvas
SOLD Rolling Wave French Beach Vancouver Island British Columbia
by Terrill Welch, 30 x 40 inch walnut oil on canvas

So, here on this small rural Mayne Island, off the southwest coast of Canada, you can still witness Terrill Welch standing before her easel moving paint from palette to canvas as she strengthens her studio practice, doubles her physical gallery space, enhances her online presence even further and brings on three more artists to show along side her in the new Arbutus Room that is dedicated specifically to west coast landscape paintings. Before you go though, be sure to sign up for our newsletter below and then share it with others who might be interested. It truly is one of the best ways to stay in touch and get a chance to scoop up a new work while it is still under progress.

A Painter’s Corner and Plein Air Views with Terrill Welch

This staying home, self isolating and social distancing is hard on individuals and communities alike. Human-beings are such social creatures. It is a big ask even though it is necessary. We may find it hard to follow various orders and requests. Basically, we are being asked to do something that humans have not been born or nurtured to do – especially in a crisis. We want to be together and travel to the place we believe is the safest, even when our rational mind and experts tell us otherwise. This is a challenging time on so many levels.

An invitation from Contemporary Canadian Landscape Painter Terrill Welch –

“I am holding space for loving kindness, compassion and thoughtful resilience for each and everyone of us. I invite each of you to do the same. Take a moment and just imagine everyone closeby and afar embraced in love.”

A Painter’s Corner and Plein Air Views with Terrill Welch is a little less than 15 minute video of Terrill’s landscape painting world using snippets from May 2014 to March 2020. The music in the video is from the iMovie soundtrack options and is called “Hope” by Keith Kenniff. We hope you enjoy this quiet retreat from everyday worries and challenges.

We are near the beginning of our collective global journey with this COVID-19 virus. Our abilities to navigate the continual changes that are going to be asked of us will be paramount to shaping our future.

We can do this. It is going to test us as individuals and as a community beyond anything we are familiar with in our lifetime. Yet, I know we will come out the other side, whole, together and strong. Whatever happens and whatever we do, being kind is always possible. Let’s start there and proceed with thoughtfulness and personal accountability.

May this video bring you inner peace, strength, hope, resilience and compassion for others.

Terrill introduced this painting live on her personal Facebook profile and we were able to capture the video for you as well. May Terrill’s painting and words offer whatever you need in this moment…

From an art collector on  March 26, 2020 – “It’s not a good time to be spending money – my retirement savings are taking such a hit, but on the other hand, I think Mother Nature is telling us to pay attention to what truly makes us happy, and I think your art is one of those precious things…..”

Art of Terrill Welch Gallery is Expanding

The Art of Terrill Welch Gallery is adding another gallery room to our location. This new room will allow the gallery to show both more of Terrill’s paintings and a small number of highly curated new works by other artists that we are deeply familiar with.

Art of Terrill Welch Gallery

The new gallery space will be named the “Arbutus Room” and will be in the former Dragonfly location, owned by Vania Williams, which is moving next door. The Arbutus Room will be dedicated to west coast and Salish Sea landscape paintings.

Vania Williams will also provide sales and retail support for the Art of Terrill Welch Gallery in the new Arbutus Room. This allows the Arbutus Room to be open year-round for the same hours as the Dragonfly. This arrangement will have the advantage of keeping the accessible side entrance available to Vania’s store and protect Terrill’s sacred painting time, even with the expanded gallery showings.

The Arbutus Room is anticipated to be open sometime in April or early May. Please stay tuned while we work out the details and complete the renovations. We look forward to providing you with the same great art and relaxed, personal and informed service on this new and grander scale in the near future.

Best Landscape Paintings Of The Decade 2010-2019

We are celebrating the past decade of contemporary landscape painting by our very own Canadian artist living on Mayne Island off the southwest coast of British Columbia. Terrill Welch exposes the mystery in an ordinary day. During the past decade 2010-2019, she completed over 300 contemporary landscape paintings. Of these, about 260 were released for purchase and 150 sold to private collectors in eight different countries.

From the beginning of the decade…

… to the end of the decade, our connection and enjoyment of these significant works of art is evident!

New Release of Large Landscape Painting

The last one for 2019! A new large contemporary landscape oil painting has been placed into our art gallery inventory and released…

arbutus tree large landscape painting by Canadian contemporary artist
Morning With Arbutus Trees by Terrill Welch, walnut oil on canvas 36 x 48 x 1.5 inches

View and inquire at https://www.artworkarchive.com/profile/terrill-welch/artwork/morning-with-arbutus-trees

Notes from the painter: “To stand quiet and alone with these arbutus trees during a late summer morning is to find the spirit of the place, resting next to my bones with the slow beat of my heart keeping time with their gentle rhythm.”

SOLD This Past Week

In October, this large 40 x 30 inch work left the gallery for a trial visit. However, the art collector had a challenging location and the painting didn’t work in that first desired location. But rather than giving up, she tested in another location… and then another location. The third time was charmed. We saw a sneak preview Last week and believe “When I am Among the Trees” will be most happy there, doing its job of taking the viewer for a walk through the trees into the spirit of the place. And so another large landscape painting leaves Mayne Island, and crosses the Strait of Georgia, for a more urban adventure.

Recently Sold Paintings by Contemporary Artist Terrill Welch

On this December 1st of 2019, we pause to reflect on the success of the Art of Terrill Welch Gallery during this past art season. The small seasonal gallery, with a year-round online presence, has had a good year. In fact, the best year so far! By the end of September this year, Terrill Welch had painted and released 23 new contemporary landscape paintings and 17 works had sold from her inventory of original works. Before a price increase takes effect next week, we thought we would share five of our favourite oil paintings that are now in the homes of art collectors and offer you the chance to browse the online gallery of current works still available.

Earth as to Sky, oil on canvas 30 x 40 Inches by Terrill Welch. Sold

Terrill is in the gallery’s winter studio painting as fast as she can to bring you more inspiring renderings like these in the near future.
